Professor FANG Fangxinhave over 15-year experience in data assimilation (Adjoint, EnKF),mathematical modelling technologies, reduced order models, adjointsensitivity methods for best estimate predictions, and for optimization problems. These technologies have been applied to ocean and climateprediction, sediment transport, oil spills, air pollution, urban flooding andother natural hazards, water quality, reservoir modelling, coastal andhydraulic engineering, and renewable energy. She currently lead the joint research between Imperial college and theInstitute of Atmospheric and Physics (China) on developing the nextgenerational operational WRF for atmosphere and air pollution(introducing adaptive unstructured meshes).The other areas of research include finite elements, finite difference, goalbased error metrics, and adaptive unstructured mesh optimisation. She has about 50 publications in leading peer reviewed journals in computationalphysics, fluids flows and engineering.
