The environmental science and engineering discipline of Guangdong University of Technology, the first to enroll undergraduates majoring in environmental engineering in Guangdong Province as early as 1983, currently has three undergraduate specialties: Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science and Safety Engineering.It ranked in the top 0.092% of ESI Global Discipline Ranking (Engineering) and 0.41% of ESI Global Discipline Ranking (Environmental Science/Ecology) in March 2022, and 17th(top 10%) in the Shanghai Ranking's Chinese discipline ranking of environmental science and engineering in 2021.

The Institute has undertaken over 15 teaching reform projects at the provincial and ministerial levels and above, and has won one state-level first-class course and one provincial and ministerial teaching achievement. In 2019, the Institute got a provincial teaching team (Ning Xun'an) for Solid Waste Treatment and Disposal. In 2017, the Institute got the Provincial Teaching Achievement Award in Practice of Planning-Orientation-Employment (Entrepreneurship) Ecological Chain New Engineering Talent Cultivation Mode (Du Qingping).
