On the morning of December 4th, the final of the second "Shuiqing Cup" Environmental Protection Speech Competition of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering in 2021 was held in Room 4 of the University City Campus. Ning Xunan, Dean of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Yang Weiping, Secretary of the Party Committee, and Tan Jingkang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee; Lin Guoning, Chairman of Guangdong Shuiqing Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd.; Lai Rikun, Deputy General Manager; Su Na, Personnel Manager; Li Yuanbin, Deputy Secretary General of Guangdong Environmental Protection Industry Association; Lai Binbing, General Manager of Guangdong Haohe Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd.; and Director of Guangdong Speech Society Le Yun, Director of the Cultural Communication and Research Department of the School General Education Center, and others attended and served as judges for the final of this speech competition.
The "Shuiqing Cup" Environmental Protection Speech Competition was prepared and held with the strong support of Lin Guoning, Chairman of Guangdong Shuiqing Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. and Alumni of the 2000 Environmental Engineering major of our university. This issue focuses on the theme of "carbon reduction and green development". At the finals, the speakers combined their personal experience, focused on their own profession, or focused on the current social situation, or rooted in traditional culture, closely linked to the characteristics of the times, and progressed layer by layer, using rigorous logic to explain their profound understanding of the cultural heritage and ecological wisdom of carbon reduction and green sustainable development goals, national policies and ecological concepts, modern technology and ecological elements in the new development stage, new development concept, and new development pattern. In the group defense segment, members responded to the judges' questions from the perspective and attitude of contemporary new youth, and applause continued on site. After the competition, Director Le Yun gave detailed comments on the contestants from three aspects: "excitement", "anticipation", and "hope".
Dean Ning Xunan cited an inscription in front of Westminster Abbey and summarized that college students should change their mindset, start from themselves, actively participate in speech competitions, gain practical experience, and be able to confidently showcase themselves when entering the workforce; By stepping forward with low-carbon travel, universities should cultivate good habits and contribute to the environmental protection cause as environmental students.
It is reported that since the start of the competition in October, with the strong promotion of the college, the active mobilization and guidance of the class teachers, and the enthusiastic participation of students, the class competition and grade competition were completed in early and mid November. The finals ultimately produced 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes, 1 best speaker, and 10 excellent organization awards. This competition provides students with more thoughts on green and sustainable development, guiding them to focus on their majors, work hard to learn, and form a new trend of starting from themselves in low-carbon environmental protection, achieving the dissemination of positive energy.
